FAQ
- How
are Artisan Soapworks soaps made?
-
Our luxurious bar soaps are made in
small batches using the cold process
method of soap making. We use the
finest vegetable oils, pure
essential oils, proven extracts and
herbal infusions. Artfully blended
to create soaps that are full of
naturally moisturizing properties
and soothing herbs that have many
aroma therapeutic benefits.

Where did the name Artisan Soapworks
come from?
-
The word "artisan" is an adjective
to refer to the craft of hand making
products. Manufacture by hand and
with hand tools imparts unique and
individual qualities to artisanal
products, in contrast to mass
produced goods where every one is
nearly identical. "Soapworks" takes
its meaning from being a place that
makes soap. Together, Artisan
Soapworks means the home of
handcrafted soaps.
Artisan also refers to the style of
soap that we sell, meaning that
unlike commercial soaps, artisan
soaps are not perfectly cut and
beveled, but each has its own
character of shape from being formed
naturally in a pine mold. We find
this natural quality to be quite
appealing.
-
- Does
Artisan Soapworks soap contain lye?
-
Artisan Soapworks makes real soap,
meaning that lye is a key component
in the soapmaking process (lye,
combined with oils and water create
a chemical reaction called
saponification). Through the process
of saponification and curing (we
cure our soaps for one month) - you
are left with a mild all natural
soap, with virtually no traces of
lye remaining.
-
- I
have very sensitive skin, what makes
your soaps better than ones that I
can find commercially?
-
Artisan Soapworks makes all natural
soap using ingredients that are full
of skin nourishing benefits. While
we can not guarantee that our soaps
will not produce any type of skin
irritation for every body, we can
tell you that most sensitivities to
commercial soap occur because of all
of the synthetic ingredients used in
their production. For instance,
glycerin is one of the best
nutrients for the skin, and is a
natural part of the soapmaking
process. You will find that most
commercial soaps have extracted
glycerin and replaced it with
synthetic enhancers that simulate
the ability to moisturize the skin.
